About the event

Who you love is not a choice, and hypocrisy is often unavoidable.

She is a savvy sophisticate who rejects sycophants. He is young, beautiful, and wrapped up in a society where compliments are commerce and honesty is unwelcome. The Misanthrope is a world of beautiful people, with a shiny veneer and a priority on social graces.

Molière, one of the greatest masters of comedy, has created a glorious satire of polite society. Featuring Danielle Cormack (Rake, Wentworth) as a woman who rejects false flattery, living in a fabulous society laden with insincerity.

In association with Griffin Theatre Company

“As France’s answer to Shakespeare, Molière’s works are too enticing not to programme.”
